There are other disciplines in which I’ve also been deeply engaged but which were not research-oriented. These were whilst I was a senior executive at Shell International  (1985-2003); from leading reviews of many of the UK’s largest capital programmes (part-time 2003-2015), when I was one of the independent review team leaders of the UK Government’s Infrastructure and Projects Authority (here). The competences involved –  such as how  to change organisations, how to analyse failing systems, how to foster innovative teams, large-scale procurement and large-scale programme management – have all been helpful in understanding corruption reform and advancing better reform techniques.
